North County San Diego's first authentic Nordic bathhouse — coming to the Encinitas–Carlsbad coast.
Traditional Finnish sauna. Guided Aufguss rituals. A graduated cold plunge circuit. A fireside lounge built for staying, not for the clock.
Get first accessThe Ritual
The ritual, done properly.
Contrast bathing is centuries old and disarmingly simple: real heat, real cold, and unhurried rest, repeated in rounds. Most of the wellness world sells a compressed version. FYR is built for the full one — sessions run two hours, because the length of the visit is what separates a bathhouse from a recovery studio.
Heat
True Finnish sauna at 185–195°F. One silent sauna for stillness; one social sauna with scheduled Aufguss rounds led by a sauna master — steam, essential oils, and rhythmic towel work in waves of heat.
Cold
Four cold plunges at graduated temperatures, so first-timers and ice veterans each find their edge. The cold is the point — and it's better together.
Rest
A cool-down lounge with a fireplace, warm light, and a café bar serving tea, electrolytes, and light Nordic fare. Rest is a full third of the ritual, not the walk to the parking lot.

Questions
About FYR
Is there a Nordic spa in North County San Diego?
Not yet — that's why we're building one. FYR Bathhouse will be North County San Diego's first authentic Nordic bathhouse, in the Encinitas–Carlsbad corridor: true Finnish heat, guided Aufguss, a full cold plunge circuit, and a space designed for two-hour visits.
What is a Nordic bathhouse?
A facility built around contrast therapy — alternating rounds of high heat, cold immersion, and rest. Unlike infrared studios or timed recovery lounges, a bathhouse is social and unhurried. You come to stay.
How is this different from infrared sauna studios?
Infrared panels warm you at lower temperatures in private rooms on 50-minute slots. FYR offers traditional Finnish sauna at 185–195°F, scheduled Aufguss ceremonies, four graduated cold plunges, a hot pool, and a fireside lounge. It's the full version of the ritual.
What is an Aufguss ritual?
A guided sauna ceremony: a sauna master pours aromatic water over the stones and moves the steam through the room with rhythmic towel work, building heat in waves. It turns a sauna round into a shared event, and FYR will run them daily.
What does FYR mean?
FYR is Danish and Norwegian for both "lighthouse" and "fire" — coastal and heat in three letters. Heat, cold, rest, on the North County coast.
When do you open?
We're in development now. Founding memberships — a limited run with locked pricing — open before launch, and the interest list hears first. Join it here.
